AND CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
PUT IN BAY, OH. — Join Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial staff on Saturday, August 21 through Monday, August 23 for a celebration in honor of an American hero—Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. Perry, the commander of American naval forces in the War of 1812 demonstrated unparalleled strength of character and bravery during the Battle of Lake Erie. In a time of great adversity Perry’s exceptional leadership allowed American troops to claim triumph over the British in one of the most significant navel victories in U.S. history.
Come to Perry’s Victory to learn more about this incredible historic figure through a special tour of his life as presented by a costumed Perry interpreter. Celebratory events will include fun and educational activities for adults and children alike. Children can participate in soap ship carving, sailor hat making, miniature ship races, and get their very own temporary tattoos. There will also be living history demonstrations that will bring to life Perry’s experiences aboard an 1812 tall ship.
The Heritage Minstrels will delight visitors with music from the 1800’s. To top off the celebration, birthday cake will be served at noon all three days! The event is free and open to the public.
The Perry tour will begin every hour on the hour between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Perry’s Victory Visitor Center back porch. Children’s activities will also run between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. In addition to the Perry’s Birthday events, there will be Black Powder Musket demonstrations every hour on the hour between 11am and 5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
