Put-in-Bay Treasures You Pyrates May Now Know About

It’s not officially summer yet based on the calendar, but it may as well be since the 2015 Put-in-Bay Pyrate Fest fires up this Friday.  Whether you’re a first time plunderer or a seasoned old salt, there may be a few hidden treasures on the island both new and old that are ripe for the picking.
Red Room Speakeasy at the Park Hotel — Paying homage to the red exterior of the Round House, the island’s only speakeasy whisks visitors back to the 1930’s with handcrafted cocktails and original drinks.  Located inside the Park Hotel it’s a great spot to relax, slow down and get off the grid for a moment.
The Village BakeryWhile staples like Frosty Bar and Pasquales will always be on the immediate radar when it comes to breakfast, The Village Bakery is a phenomenal little SBSP_Focusestablishment tucked away further along down on Delaware Ave where the staff is wonderfully friendly and the homemade croissant breakfast sandwiches are heavenly.
Pebble Beach — It’s true, sand is short supply on the island but that doesn’t mean going to the beach is still not an option.  Down at the South Bass Island State Park the beautiful pebble beach is a brilliant place to cool off on a hot summer day and because there’s no sand, the water is remarkably clear.  However if it’s not lounging around you’re after, check out the jet ski and kayak rentals.
Joe’s Press House — Conveniently located around the entrance of the state park, Joe’s is a legendary Put-in-Bay establishment that’s perfect for a mellow scene.  With great patio seating and a nice under-the-radar feel inside, make sure to try one of the fantastic Bloody Marys which is perhaps the best on the island.
The Garden Bar — Although The Old Forge Café and Crêperie has quickly become a mainstay on the island, the fairly new addition of The Garden Bar is a brilliant alley-like addition that has added an almost southern feel to the unique establishment.  Enjoy house made sangria, craft beer or a glass of wine all while soaking up the sun outdoors.
GardenBarDJ’s Ice Cream Parlor — Situated just before Bayshore Resort, DJ’s is one of the best places on the island to chill out and enjoy some mouth-watering ice cream.  If the weather’s nice, make sure to sit outside under the leafy green canopy area.  With various comfy chairs and swings  to choose from, there’ s a bunch of cozy options for you and whomever you’re cruising with.
Lake Erie Islands Historical Resale Shop — The ultimate venue for a treasure hunter, the resale shop has an unbelievably eclectic assortment of goods for visitors to rummage through.  It’s also located directly next store to the Historical Museum, so if you tire of shopping you can always learn a bit about the island’s storied history.
