Aquatic Visitors Center

Learn more about Lake Erie by exploring its rich history and experiencing science up close at the Aquatic Visitors Center on Lake Erie’s South Bass Island near Put-in-Bay, Ohio. AVC tours are free and open to the public from 10 am – 5 pm Wednesday through Saturday, June 19 – August 24.
Activities include inspecting Lake Erie’s complex ecosystem through hands-on displays, observing and identifying live fish in aquaria, and discovering current research to protect Lake Erie. Enjoy family-friendly programs to learn about bugs, snakes, fish and the natural world. Kids under age 16 can borrow fishing gear & bait and fish for FREE. Admission to the Center is also FREE.
Get your kids excited about science! Most Saturdays in the summer, the Aquatic Visitors Center hosts a program for children at 2 pm on the dock. Topics vary from week to week, but previous programs have included: Animals of the Lake Erie Watershed, Birds of the Lake Erie Islands, Bugs in the Water, Fun with Fish & more.
